Four Favourite Places to Stay in Paris

17 Feb

Here are our personal hotel recommendations for your stay in Paris – City of Lights.

The Eiffel Tower, Paris, with the Trocadero in the distance

The majority of France Motorhome Hire clients arrive in France via Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris and most of them take the opportunity to spend some time in the capital, either before or after their campervan trip.

Our depot is an easy 55-minute train ride from Paris, so the FMH team regularly visits the capital for an overnight stay which has given us the chance to build up an address book of favourite places to stay.

Four FMH Paris hotel suggestions

Plug Inn, Paris (© Plug Inn Boutique Hostel)Iva (our Customer Services Administrator), recently spent a weekend in the city and found the cheapest hotel we have ever heard of in Paris, and to her surprise it was clean, quiet and perfectly civilised as well! Located in Montmartre and near the Moulin Rouge the Plug Inn describes itself as a “Boutique Hostel” but they have private rooms too and it really is incredibly good value.  (Iva booked through Bookings.com and got an even cheaper deal than the one offered on the hostel’s website – €50 for a twin room with Wi-Fi, en-suite shower/WC and breakfast!).

Hotel Eldorado, Paris (Photo: © Hotel Eldorado)In the same area, also close to Montmartre and the Moulin Rouge, right in the heart of an authentic, lively Parisian neighbourhood is the Hotel Eldorado. The hotel is great value although the décor is a little threadbare in places (more shabby than shabby-chic)! It has a trendy little bistro “Bistro de Dames” and a garden for al fresco dining in the summer months (rare in Paris!). A standard double room ranges in price from €70 to €110 per night.

In leafy, upmarket Saint Germain des Pres, near great shops and the Latin Quarter, I have stayed at the Best Western Trianon Rive Gauche which was in good location and very smart and clean. The rooms were pretty small (like most Paris hotels) but we even had a view of the Eiffel Tower from ours the last time we stayed. Prices vary from about €130 to €290 per night for a double room and it is definitely best to book well in advance to get the best price.

Hotel Le Relais des Halles, Paris (Photo: © Hotel Le Relais des Halles)Finally, my personal favourite, Parisian boutique hotel; right in the historic heart of Paris and very near the Pompidou Centre (plus Metro stops and tons of bars/restaurants) is Le Relais des Halles. Exquisite, French décor, impeccable standards of cleanliness and helpful staff make this a lovely place to stay. A standard double room ranges from about €130 to €210 and booking ahead is a must as with just 19 rooms, they tend to be fully booked every night.

So remember to plan a night or two in Paris before or after your campervan trip, a city break makes a great contrast to the freedom of the open road (and beautiful French countryside), and Paris is truly one of the loveliest cities in the world.

If you need inspiration for your Paris visit the official Paris Convention & Visitors Bureau website, which will give you loads of information on what to see and do as well as listing events, restaurants and hotels too.
